Summer picnic, ITHA elections update
The ITHA held its annual summer picnic Monday, July 16. With new features this year including “A Taste of Racing,” it was a great success! There was a great turnout of ITHA members and their families on a perfect afternoon. The picnic included bingo, a Baggo tournament, water activities, pontoon boat rides, fishing, a volleyball tournament, and the always classic boat races.
All of the events brought the entire horse racing community together in a fun and exciting way. However, that didn’t stop the competitive spirit to come out of many; the jockeys especially. Winning is as much of a bloodline to them as a winning bloodline is everything to a foal. With a team of jockey’s Joel Campbell, Jesse Lantz, E.T. Baird, and Francisco Torres, they were ready to dominate the volleyball tournament as if it were a Graded Stakes race. But with a questionable referee and the laws of gravity against them, it was a tough day for the jockeys’ on the court, who ended up winless.
All in all this was a fantastic event of over 500 people that couldn’t be done without the help of some incredible people. A special thanks for all of their hard work is due to the following; Mary Zimmerman, Patty Miller, Janice Campbell, Gina Fedor and her entire family of Randy, June, Patty, and Missy, Scott Holas, Herschel Davis and the entire Gate Crew, Tim Becker, Becky, Shawna, Dan Arrigo, Paul Lewelyn, John Christiano, Stacy Darjean, Angie Cristel, Dan Picnic, Kirt from Baggo, and the Porkie Pig Roast crew!
In other news, ITHA elections are coming up this fall. The positions that will be open include the ITHA president, three positions for Trainer/Director, and two positions for Owner/Director. If you are interested in running for a position, please do your best to attend upcoming ITHA Board of Directors meetings. We encourage those interested to run for a position and hope to see you at an upcoming meeting. The General Membership Meeting where nominations will be accepted is September 8, 2012.
