ITHA Board of Directors Congratulates Richard and Karen Papiese, First Runner-Up 2011 Eclipse Awards Owners Category

The Illinois Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association, Inc., is proud to congratulate its members, Richard and Karen Papiese on being a finalist for the 2011 Eclipse Award, Owners Category. The Papieses’ Midwest Thoroughbreds, Inc. earned the nomination after being the number one ranked North American owner with 418 wins and more than $6.3 million in earnings.

The Papieses started in 2001 with a total of two horses. After establishing Midwest Thoroughbreds Stables and hiring trainer Jamie Ness in 2009 the stable grew to approximately 180 horses in training during 2011.

Ness conditions the majority of Midwest’s runners from his East Coast base but the stable also employs trainers Brad Cox, Roger Brueggemann and Hector Magaña.

The Papieses have a family business, Midwest Store fixtures, located in University Park, IL.
