Second largest handle day at Hawthorne

Only five more days of live racing to go for the spring meet and with a meet like this, you hate to see it end! Once again, Mother Nature has been great to us as we have sunny skies, a fast main track and a firm turf course.

Yesterday was a great day for racing as the Pick 6 carryover generated an additional $254,000 in the pool. With the help of TVG and a fine racing card, yesterday was our second largest handle day of the spring meet, raising the increase in total handle for this spring compared to 2011 at this period to a total of $14.5 million!

With just five days to go, we have still have a very big weekend of racing ahead next weekend as our Illinois Champions Day takes place. That day will have six stakes races for $125,000 apiece and the races are lining up to be extremely competitive.

Yesterday was the return of the Grade III $200,000 Sixty Sails Handicap and it looked to be the continued dominance of Arena Elvira as she looked for her 7th straight victory. That wasn’t to be as she ran a good race to finish third, but the dominance came from Donnie Von Hemel’s She’s All In as she romped by nearly nine lengths under jockey Luis Quinonez. Overall, the day produced some great performances which resulted in a Pick 6 return of nearly $7,000 to each who had a winning ticket.

Today is day two of our NTRA Qualifying contest, we wish the best to all who are participating.
