Carryovers at Hawthorne

It doesn’t get much better than this! Sunny skies, a fast main track and only four scratches on the Wednesday card. We have three large carryovers today as the Pick 5 ($3,553), Pick 6 ($9,542) and High 5 ($18,819) all are part of a good sequence of races.

Looking at the standings, things have tightened up as we are five weeks into the meet. For riders, there has been a shift atop the standings as the loss of the bug hasn’t stopped Constantino Roman one bit. Roman has been so consistent all meet long and currently leads with 15 winners on the meet. Second is Florent Geroux with 12, followed closely by Francisco Torres and Tim Thornton, each with 11 apiece. Quincy Hamilton has won 10 races while Inez Karlsson has 9 wins.

For trainers, Roger Brueggemann continues his solid meet as he has won 15 races from his first 50 starters. Frank Kirby is second with 10 wins, followed by Chris Dorris with 8. Midwest Thoroughbreds is atop the owner standings with 8 wins and 9 seconds from 31 starts thus far.

Today we have a pair of good co-featured events with a pair of open allowance races to kick off the $.50 late Pick 4. In the 6th, Itzacoldcase takes on 7 others, including Catalano entrant Euronfire, a fine maiden winner last fall at Keeneland. The 7th race has another Catalano entrant in Sacred Honor as that one will face off with recent California runner Twilight Memory and my sleeper, Darland.

All the racing action will be covered today on HorseplayerNow.com as there will be an online chat taking place. The chat room opens at 1:15 pm and will cover the entire day’s racing action, including providing analysis and selections and taking questions on Chicago racing.
