Carryovers, Survivor update at Hawthorne

Great weather for a Friday afternoon of racing and it looks like this weekend and the next few weeks will be even better! We are already setting turf races in our third condition book for the third week of April. If the good weather remains, we may even be on the turf sooner.

Today we have a fine 9-race card on a fast main track with a solid feature going as the 7th race on the card. I can see any of the horses in the 7th winning but don’t expect to see a short-priced favorite in that race.

Taking a look at the online Survivor contest, some tough races and beaten favorites have taken their toll on the majority of the field as we started the contest 8 racing days ago with 1,525 contestants. Entering today, only 96 remain, while only one player has correctly selected a winner in each of the first 8 days. This contest alone has shown the competitiveness of the racing product at Hawthorne.

Today we enter with three solid carryovers. The Place Pick 9 kicks off in the opener with a $2,096.54 carryover. The Pick 6, which begins in the 4th race has a carryover of $6,416.47 while the Pick 5 has carried for a couple of days, and enters Friday with a carryover of $10,629.75. The Pick 5 begins in Race #5.

Tomorrow we have another of our Pool Parties at Hawthorne as the always popular Harry Teinowitz from ESPN Radio 1000 will be onsite to co-host our prerace show and conduct the pool party. Harry knows racing and has often collected nicely for his fans. To sign up for the pool party, visit Guest Services on the first floor of the grandstand. For just $20, fans will receive two hours worth of food and beverages while also sharing in any of Harry’s winnings from his pool party wagers. The food is always great, the atmosphere is fun and Harry is very entertaining.

Today we have a few scratches and jockey Mike James is off his mounts as he is under the weather. After a few days battling sickness, jockey Francisco Torres returns to the saddle today:
