First Wednesday card at Hawthorne

A beautiful day outside for the first of our Wednesday afternoon cards as we have sunny skies, a fast main track and a very competitive card. From now until the end of the meet, we will race every Wednesday, Friday-Sunday (excluding Easter Sunday) with a first post of 1:40 pm daily.

Today we also begin our online chats which will take place every Wednesday through Horseplayernow.com. Joe Kristufek and myself will cover the day’s racing action at Hawthorne, providing insight and selections along with answering questions about racing in Illinois and on the national scene. Make sure to join the chat early through the Hawthorne website as the room opens at 1:15 pm.

We have a pair of carryovers for the Wednesday card as neither the Place Pick 9 nor the Pick 6 were hit on Sunday. The Place Pick 9 carryover is $1,702 while the Pick 6 is at $2,667.

For our racing fans who come onsite to Hawthorne, the next of our finish line boxes will be opening this Saturday afternoon. Our Finish Line Party Box opens on Saturday and will be available to our racing fans. For those who would like to sit in that area, contact Guest Services and they can make your reservations. Our only requirement for the afternoon is that you enjoy $20 worth of food and beverage for the table from our servers who will be working in that box seat area. There will be multiple TVs, along with wagering terminals available as well to make that area as convenient as possible.

We are also nearing the release of our mobile application for Hawthorne as we are working out the final bugs. I got to preview the app as it provides not only entries, results, selections, and changes, but also will show live racing and race replays. More details to come.

Minimal changes on Wednesday afternoon at Hawthorne:

Today’s Early Scratches

Main Track – Fast

Race 2

#1 – Jockey – U. Lopez
Scratch #3 – Light My Saphire

Race 3

#1a – Jockey – H. Vega
