ARLINGTON MILLION XXX ATTENDANCE OF 34,022 BEST IN MORE THAN TWO DECADES

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Aug. 19, 2012) – The 2012 Arlington Million/International Festival of Racing Day crowd of 34,022 not only represented a 10 percent increase from the 31,069 that attended the 2011 International Festival of Racing, it also was the largest Million Day crowd since the current facility opened in 1989 and the fourth highest in the 30-year history of the Arlington Million.

In addition, the all-sources commingled handle of $14,785,748 was 14 percent higher than the $13,017,554 wagered on the 2011 Million Day card. On track, the $2,891,660 bet was 13 percent higher than the $2,562,613 handled the previous year.

“The addition of the American St. Leger to an already strong program of Grade I turf races plus an outstanding undercard of races put together by our Director of Racing Chris Polzin proves that racing fans around the country and around the world will attend and wager on high quality racing,” said Arlington Park General Manager Tony Petrillo. “In addition to a fantastic card, fans here were treated to new and exciting entertainment such as our Million Party Zone or Million VIP Lounge.”

The 2012 International Festival of Racing card featured three Grade I turf races – the Arlington Million won by Priscilla Vaccarezza’a Little Mike; the $750,000 Beverly D. for fillies & mares won by Andrew Stone’s I’m A Dreamer; and the $500,000 Secretariat Stakes for 3-year-olds captured by His Highness the Aga Khan’s Studs’ Bayrir – plus the inaugural edition of the $400,000 American St. Leger taken by Darren Dance’s Jakkalberry.

Arlington Park – the Chicago area’s premier Thoroughbred racetrack located in Arlington Heights, Ill. – will run a 90-day meet in 2012 from Friday, May 4 through Sunday, Sept. 30. Arlington Park, whose parent company is Churchill Downs Incorporated (Nasdaq: CHDN), also operates 12 off-track, simulcast-wagering facilities – Trackside Arlington Park (Arlington Heights), Trackside Chicago, Trackside Quad City Downs (East Moline), Trackside Waukegan, Tavern on North featuring Trackside Villa Park, Shooters Bar & Grill at Don Carter Lanes featuring Trackside Rockford, Fat Sam’s Bar & Grill featuring Trackside OTB in Lockport, Stanley’s Ale House featuring Trackside OTB in South Elgin, Nicolino’s featuring Trackside OTB in McHenry, TADS Sports Bar & Grill featuring Trackside OTB in South Beloit, Salerno-Pincente Ristorante featuring Trackside OTB in Hodgkins and Sam’s Triple Crown featuring Trackside Orland Hills.
