Arlington Park news release

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (August 15, 2011) – Fans of multi-race wagers, particularly those involving high-quality turf stakes races, will find plenty of opportunity to partake in such bets on Arlington Million Day on Saturday, August 18, when the track will play host to three Grade I turf stakes, a newly created $400,000 marathon turf event and three overnight stakes races that will comprise the bulk of the 12-race card that starts at 12:15 pm Central time.

Arlington Park will offer a $200,000 guaranteed pool on the 50-cent Late Pick 4 wager covering races 9-12 that will include the 30th running of the Arlington Million, which will be the 11th race of the day and the Million’s sister race, the $750,000 Beverly D. as the 10th race of the afternoon, a division of the $65,000 Hatoof Stakes for 3-year-old fillies on the turf as the 9th race and seven-furlong Polytrack claiming race carded with 14 starters as the 12th race.

In addition, the track’s popular 50-cent Pick 5 which carries a low 15 percent takeout rate, will be an all stakes/all-turf wager and cover races 7 through 11 - the Million, the Beverly D., the Hatoof, the Grade I $500,000 Secretariat Stakes for 3-year-olds and the inaugural edition of the $400,000 American St. Leger, and offer a guaranteed pool of $100,000.

The day’s $1 Pick 6, which will cover races 6-11, will have at five turf races in the sequence.

All of Arlington’s races on Million Day will offer standard win, place, show, exacta, trifecta and superfecta wagers subject to Illinois Racing Board rules. In addition, the 10-cent Win Pick 9 will cover the final nine races on the card (4-12) and there will be a 50-cent Pick 4 wager covering races 3-6.

On the 12th race, Arlington will offer a $1 JackPOT High 5 wager in a race that has been carded with 14 starters. The Jackpot High-5 is a twist on the Super High-5 in that the entire net pool will only be paid out when there is one and only one winning ticket sold that correctly selects the first five finishers in exact order. If there are multiple tickets sold that correctly select the first five finishers in exact order, then 50 percent of the daily Jackpot High-5 pool will be distributed among those ticket holders and 50 percent of the daily pool will be carried over to the next day. Of course if nobody selects the first five finishers in exact order, the entire daily pool will be carried over to the next day. Earlier this season thanks in part to a 23-day jackpot carryover, one lucky patron cashed for more than $1.1 million.

Arlington Park – the Chicago area’s premier Thoroughbred racetrack located in Arlington Heights, Ill. – will run a 90-day meet in 2012 from Friday, May 4 through Sunday, Sept. 30. Arlington Park, whose parent company is Churchill Downs Incorporated (Nasdaq: CHDN), also operates 12 off-track, simulcast-wagering facilities – Trackside Arlington Park (Arlington Heights), Trackside Chicago, Trackside Quad City Downs (East Moline), Trackside Waukegan, Tavern on North featuring Trackside Villa Park, Shooters Bar & Grill at Don Carter Lanes featuring Trackside Rockford, Fat Sam’s Bar & Grill featuring Trackside OTB in Lockport, Stanley’s Ale House featuring Trackside OTB in South Elgin, Nicolino’s featuring Trackside OTB in McHenry, TADS Sports Bar & Grill featuring Trackside OTB in South Beloit, Salerno-Pincente Ristorante featuring Trackside OTB in Hodgkins and Sam’s Triple Crown featuring Trackside Orland Hills.
