In today's notes:

CHAMBERLAIN BRIDGE POSSIBLE TO JUMP BACK INTO ARLINGTON SPRINT

Carl Moore Management’s Chamberlain Bridge, who won the Grade III Arlington Sprint two years ago on his way to a score in that fall’s Grade II Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint at Churchill Downs, is under strong consideration to return this weekend for the 2012 Arlington Sprint, according to stakes coordinator George Berry.

Trained by Bret Calhoun, the 8-year-old gelding last visited the winner’s circle Dec. 17 at Fair Grounds when he won the New Orleans oval’s $75,000 Bonapaw Stakes.

Silverton Hill’s Havelock, winner of last season’s Arlington Sprint, is also being considered for a return to defend that title by trainer Darrin Miller, although Miller is also considering Silverton Hill’s British-bred gelding Longhunter for this year’s renewal.

Vinery Stable’s Regally Ready, winner of last fall’s Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint under the Twin Spires, is also probable for the Arlington Sprint.

GRAHAM, STIDHAM WIN ARLINGTON JOCKEY, TRAINER AWARDS FOR JUNE

Arlington’s defending jockey champion James Graham, currently the runner-up in this season’s rider standings, has been named Arlington’s jockey of the month for June, while conditioner Mike Stidham, currently Arlington’s leading trainer this summer, has been named trainer of the month for June.

However, also worthy of recognition is the success they have enjoyed together. At the end of June the Stidham-Graham duo had teamed up to win 16 races, seven more than their nearest competitors, the trainer-jockey team of Chris Block and Eddie Perez.

One month earlier, the Stidham-Graham team had only led other trainer-jockey pairings by a single winner.

Stidham and Graham also teamed up to win Saturday’s $66,600 Mariah’s Storm Stakes with Feel The Thunder Stable’s Lady Candidate.

Midwest Thoroughbreds, Arlington’s leading owner by two wins at the end of June, was also awarded Arlington’s owner of the month award for June. The Illinois-based operation was established in 2009 by Richard and Karen Papiese and was a finalist for the Eclipse Award as outstanding owner in 2011. The stable led the nation’s owners by individual winners and total wins for the second straight year in 2011 and easily led the earnings race in 2011 with $6,307,278.

LEADING JOCKEY FRANCISCO TORRES SCORES SATURDAY HAT TRICK

Chicago-raised Francisco Torres, Arlington’s current leading rider in pursuit of his first local riding title at 43 years of age, contributed to that quest by visiting the winner’s circle on three separate occasions Saturday.

Torres won the second half of Saturday’s Daily Double aboard John and Cheryl Banner’s Queen of the Nile for trainer Dave Kassen, made it two straight by taking the third with Silver Wing Stable’s Silver Rock Star for conditioner Manny Perez, and then captured Saturday’s Grade III Chicago Handicap astride Kitty in a Tizzy for owner William Clifton Jr. and trainer James Bond.

Venezuelan jockey Edgar Perez, new to Arlington this season, scored his first riding double at the local oval Saturday, winning the ninth race with Marablue Farm’s Esoteric for nine-time Arlington trainer champion Wayne Catalano and the finale aboard Vic Carlson’s Yankee Lite for conditioner Wesley Ward.

Catalano registered a training double by winning the 10th race with Gary and Mary West’s Code of Conduct, who had jockey Quincy Hamilton in the irons.

REMINDER: THURSDAY RACING STARTS THIS WEEK AT ARLINGTON

Thursday racing at Arlington this season begins this week, and Wednesday’s Fourth of July racing program will be the last Wednesday racing program of the season at Chicago’s northwest Thoroughbred oval.
