Fox Valley Hermia
The long striding Fox Valley Hermia teamed up with driver Ronnie Gillespie to win her fourth straight start as they captured the first of two $7,000 divisions of the Mi Metallica Stake on Thursday night at Maywood Park.
Fresh off a victory in last Thursday’s Juxtaposition stake, Ronald Phillips and Jesse Ferge’s good looking filly, Fox Valley Hermia, kept her perfect record intact as she cruised to a wire-to-wire score in the first of two $7,000 divisions of the $7,000 Mi Metallica Stake on Thursday night. The second division was captured by MJ’s Bid and driver Marcus Miller.

Using the inside starting spot to perfection once again, driver Ronnie Gillespie whisked the daughter of Yankee Skyscaper-Hidden Princess away from the gate and the filly was comfortably in front as she rolled by the opening station in 29.4.

Continuing to maintain her advantage despite slowing things down, Fox Valley Hermia stepped through middle splits of 1:01.3 and 1:30.4 while under no pressure from her five rivals.

Fit and fresh heading into the final turn the Graham Ross Jr.-trained miss then put it into high gear, quickly opening up a two-length advantage over the pocket-sitting Ambition (Marcus Miller).

Receiving only mild urging from Gillespie, Fox Valley Hermia continued to increase her margin all the way through the lane eventually reporting home with a four-length verdict in a very easy 1:58.2. Ambition turned that golden trip into a second place check while Fox Valley Vista (Brian Carpenter) was third, some 5 ½ lengths behind the winner.

The long-striding chestnut filly now boasts four straight victories to open her career with earnings of $9,509. With only win and place wagering allowed Fox Valley Hermia returned just $2.10 and $2.10.

MJ's Bid
Marcus Miller guided MJ's Bid to her second win in as many tries. taking the second division of the Mi Metallica Stake in easy fashion on Thursday.
The heavy favorite also prevailed in the nightcap as the Ervin Miller trained MJ’s Bid, who captured the Incredible Tillie Stake at Balmoral Park in her career debut, made it two in a row as she cruised to a 2 ¾ length triumph in 2:01.3.

Confidently handled by driver Marcus Miller, the daughter of Cole Muffler-Rons Girl was unhurried early as she came away third from the inside starting spot as High On The Hog (Ridge Warren) led the field through an opening quarter in 30.2.

Moving to the outside, Miller and MJ’s Bid began a steady grind to the front as High On The Hog continued to lead the field through splits of 1:01.4 and 1:31.1.

Eventually overtaking the pace setter as the field moved around the final turn, MJ’s Bid quickly opened up a 1 ½ length lead and was under wraps as she cruised home with her second win in as many starts. High On The Hog held on for second while Fox Valley Teenie (Casey Leonard) staged a nice late rally to get the show dough.

Sent off as the 2-5 favorite MJ’s Bid returned $2.80, $2.20 and $2.10, while pushing her career earnings up to $10,000 for the partnership of Anderson, Carver and Mystical Marker Farms.
