Closing week at Hawthorne

The final four days of racing kick off today as we have another nice day. We have sunny skies, a fast main track and a fine 10-race card. Looking ahead, after some ugly weather in October and November, Mother Nature has been good to us in December and looks to provide unseasonably warm temps the remainder of the week as Thursday-Saturday all look to have highs in the mid-40s. Because of that, we will be able to add races, running 10 races Thursday, 11 races Friday and 12 Races on Saturday to close out the fall meet. We will be moving up post time on Saturday slightly to a 1:25 pm first post on New Years Eve.

We enter the final week with the race for leading trainer and owner wrapped up as Roger Brueggemann and Midwest Thoroughbreds, Inc. have posted runaway wins for leading trainer and owner. For leading jock, the race appears to be about over as the consistent riding of jockey Florent Geroux all meet long has allowed for him to hold Constantino Roman at an arms length. Entering today, Geroux holds a 14-win lead over Roman 73-59. I would expect the consistent Geroux to keep that margin as we close out the meet.

Today we have minimal changes as horsemen look to get their final starts for the fall before a 7-week break. We have many full fields as we close out the fall and a reminder, we will have mandatory payouts on Saturday on the Place Pick 9, Pick 6, Pick 5, Hi-5 and all Pick 4s. We enter today with a Pick 6 carryover of $9,480. Main Track is fast for the Wednesday card.
