Wednesday racing at Hawthorne

Two weeks left of racing for the live meet as we kick things off with mild temps, and a fast main track for the Wednesday nine-race card. This week we have a three-day live racing week, running Wednesday-Friday before taking off Saturday and Sunday. Hawthorne will be open for full card simulcasting on Saturday as there are some tracks racing. We do return for a special Monday afternoon card on the day after Christmas to kick off our final week as Santa Anita also opens their fall meet Monday.

With 8 live racing days to go, the standings appear to be wrapped up in all categories. I can safely state that the title for leading trainer and leading owner is taken care of as Roger Brueggemann holds a 25-win lead over Joel Berndt and Chris Block as Brueggemann has posted 45 wins on the meet. Roger’s lead owner, Midwest Thoroughbreds, Inc. has also had a great meet, posting 27 wins this fall. They hold a 15-victory margin over William Stiritz.

The race for leading jock is just about over as well as the always consistent Florent Geroux has ridden the wave of riding for Brueggemann and Midwest Thoroughbreds to a 14-win cushion over Constantino Roman. Geroux will average over a win a day for this meet as he enters the Wednesday card with 67 wins already this fall with 8 racing days still to go.

On Monday, we will have a Handicapping Contest to complement our card with a $10,000 Holiday Handicapping Contest. As we do with all of our contests, we will have a real money bankroll contest where all wagers are available and players keep what they make. This contest will pay over $5,000 in cash and prizes to contestants along with sending two people to the 2012 Horseplayer World Series in Las Vegas. For details, or to sign up, visit Guest Services on the first floor of the grandstand.
