Sloppy but few scratches at Hawthorne
A bit of an ugly and rainy evening and morning, but it looks like we may get a bit of a reprieve during the racing day from the rains. Good thing is we are 20 degrees about the normal high temperature for this time of year. We will have our track crew working throughout the evening to float as much water as possible out of the track before tomorrow’s races and before the temperatures drop. Currently we are listed as sloppy for the Wednesday afternoon card, but we have minimal scratches and a chance the track may be upgraded to muddy before day’s end.
With 13 racing days to go, jockey Florent Geroux has built a bit of a cushion in the rider standings as he is 10 ahead of bug boy Constantino Roman. Geroux has won at a rate of more than one win per day as he enters the Wednesday card with 60 victories on the meet. For trainers, Roger Brueggemann has the title wrapped up, winning at a 30 percent clip this fall, tallying 38 winners for the meet. Chris Block continues to hold onto the second spot with 20 wins while Joel Berndt and Brian Williamson are tied for third at 18 wins apiece.
Midwest Thoroughbreds, Inc. also has the leading owner title wrapped up as they have sent out 25 winners from just 80 starters this fall.
A reminder for our Club Hawthorne Members, the best rewards program in the country is giving even more back in December. For those who use their Club Hawthorne card and wager on Hawthorne races this month, you will receive an extra 1 percent back on all wagers. Get to just 10,000 points, and that equals a $200 voucher. It’s money in your pocket! For more details, or to sign up, visit Guest Services on the first floor of the grandstand.
Hoping the rain stays away the remainder of the day, here are the early scratches for Wednesday:
