Jim Versus at Hawthorne

Another beautiful day for racing at Hawthorne. We are under sunny skies with a fast main track and all 9 races taking place on the main track. Yesterday, we saw the early fractions for the races pick up in the cooler temps, but we also saw the track continue to play very evenly for the card. While the temps for the remainder of this week continue to stay above freezing, I expect the track to continue to play as it has all meet. For next week, we will see if anything changes as the overnight temps are supposed to drop below freezing.

Looking back at the Wednesday racing action, a pair of fine veteran riders had doubles as Seth Martinez and Francisco Torres each won a pair of races. One trainer won a pair as Manny Perez had his training double with wins in the fifth and the ninth.

Today will be another of our Jim Versus competitions as I will be taking on young trainer Joe Graffitt. Joe has gotten off to a fine start in his training career and wants to take me on in our handicapping contest. While the remainder of 2011 is filled for Jim Versus, the contest will return in the spring of 2012 as fans can sign up by sending me an email Jim@hawthorneracecourse.com or via Facebook through the Hawthorne Race Course page.

Looking ahead to the weekend, we return to our 1:40 pm first post on Fridays as we have our $2 Fan Friendly Friday Specials on admission, including program, food and beer specials. For those Club Hawthorne Members, now is the time to play the races at Hawthorne as everyone will receive an extra percentage point on wagers placed on our races. To sign up, visit Guest Services on the first floor of our grandstand.

This weekend we will have another of our pool parties at Hawthorne as Joe Kristufek from HorseplayerNow.com will be onsite to cover the races, conduct his online chat and try to win money for our racing fans. For just $20, fans will get food and drink for two hours, plus get to win back a share of the wagers Joe places with his $500 bankroll. In our last pool party, fans got to have a great time, eat great food, and after receiving their cut of winnings, their entire cost was only $1.45! That’s a great deal. For details, visit our website or Guest Services.
