Guys Day Out, Fan Friendly Friday at Hawthorne

A gorgeous day outside for the day after Thanksgiving with sunny skies, a fast main track and a turf course listed as good for the 9-race card. We have a lot of activity taking place over the course of this weekend as our Guys Day Out party will be taking place in our Turf Club. For those coming to Hawthorne, we also have our Fan Friendly Friday specials with $2 admission (including program), $2 food and $2 beer specials.

Today marks the latest we have raced on the turf course in recent years. Fortunately we haven’t had a deep freeze of any sort, and the warm conditions have allowed for the turf to remain in good shape. The course is listed “Good” today as we have a pair of turf races, and while the forecast doesn’t look promising for the weekend, next week’s forecast should allow for another week of turf racing. We plan to offer turf opportunities until the time comes that we either get a consistent, deep freeze, or we get a sizeable snow storm.

Looking back at the Wednesday racing card, a pair of riders and a pair of trainers each had doubles on the card. We welcome jockey Quincy Hamilton to the room as he won a pair of races for trainer Moises Yanez on Wednesday. Also, jockey Chris Emigh had a double, along with trainer Steve Manley. The track continued to play very evenly and I expect much of the same today.

Tomorrow we begin our NTRA, NHC $100,000 Super Qualifier as players will be trying to earn one of 10 seats into the National Handicapping Championship next year in Vegas. The qualifier is open to all patrons as is a real money, open wagering format qualifier. This contest is unlike many others, that limit players to $2 Win and Place only wagers. Here, you can play any wager on any track offered at Hawthorne. The minimum to play each day is $200, but as players build bankrolls, we should see some fine payouts. For those who would wager that amount regularly, this is a contest you want to get into. You get to keep what you make for the wagers, and the top prize winner will receive an additional $10,000. For the 10 qualifiers, your expenses to Vegas for the NHC are covered as well. For more details, or to sign up, visit our website, or sign up at

We have a few scratches today for a competitive card. The Pick 6 carryover has grown to $17,234 and the Place Pick 9 carryover is $6,742.
