Yielding turf at Hawthorne

Back on the turf today. We have a nine-race card at Hawthorne today with only one race carded for the grass. With a couple of days of dry weather, along with some stiff winds, we are back on the turf course for the 6th race on the card with the turf listed as yielding today. The main track is fast and continues to play very evenly. Make note, there is a strong headwind in the stretch, usually making things a bit tougher on deep closers to make up ground late.

On Saturday, our ten-race card produced a couple of very good riding performances. Jockey Tanner Riggs had a fine day Saturday, winning four races, with a pair of solid victories coming from Bobby Sands and Lost Forty. Also, Israel Ocampo won three yesterday, winning a pair for Bret Calhoun along with taking the finale for trainer Mark Cristel.

Today we have another of our online chats on as Joe Kristufek and myself will cover the 9-race card from Hawthorne, providing selections and commentary. The chat opens at 1:15 pm and will go through the end of the card. Yesterday both Joe and myself hit the Early Pick 4 and we each have some horses we like quite a bit on today’s card.

For those who are contest players, check out the cover of today’s program, or visit the website to get details on our $100,000 NHC Super Qualifier. The qualifier takes place on November 26 and 27 and is a live money event. Along with providing 10 seats to the NTRA finals, you get to keep what you earn off your wagers.

We have a few scratches today but overall we weren’t too bad off for the 9-race card.
