NTRA, NHC Qualifier at Hawthorne

Today is the first day of our NTRA, NHC Qualifier here at Hawthorne. This is a two-day event covering races at Hawthorne and tracks across the country. There is still time to sign up, but you need to come out to Guest Services on the first floor of the grandstand to get entered. As always, our contests are a live bankroll and you keep what you earn. It is the best contest format out there.

We had quite a bit of rain overnight, but we closed the track early for training in an effort to dry out the surface. Right now the rain has stopped and the track is listed as good. Depending on the weather will determine the conditions of the surface as we move through the day.

Looking back at the Friday card, it was Jozbin Santana day at Hawthorne. Santana won four races on the card to move within two wins of Tanner Riggs atop the rider standings. Santana won a pair for trainer Jimmy DiVito as well. Eddie Perez also had a double on the card as he continues his fine meet. The battle for leading jock will head right to the wire.

Aside from our live racing at Hawthorne today, there are a pair of Kentucky Derby preps with the running of the Arkansas Derby and the Blue Grass. The Factor is the name horse in the Arkansas Derby and I am not expecting much of an impact in the Derby from any runner that comes out of the Blue Grass today. Regardless, because of the dilution of three-year-olds, there will be large fields in races worth playing upsets. Look for horses that are just up and coming, fresh off a maiden or allowance win, and you will get your value.
