Wednesday at Hawthorne
We are back at it for another live day of racing action as we have sunny skies, a fast track and an eight-race Wednesday card. Looking ahead, we have some changes coming up later in the week as this Friday will begin our 2:35 pm Friday first posts for the month of April. We have a fine nine-race card Friday and this Saturday is looking to be a very strong card as well.
We are just over a week away from the running of the Grade III $250,000 Illinois Derby which will take place on Saturday April 9. We are expecting a fine field for the race which will be drawn next Wednesday. We still have a little bit of availability in the Gold Cup Dining Room but reservations are filling quickly. On Tuesday, three riders had doubles on the card as Tanner Riggs, Angel Stanley and Seth Martinez all won a pair of races apiece. Riggs has been hot for the past week and has moved to the lead in the rider standings with 28 wins. He is one ahead of Jozbin Santana while Florent Geroux has moved into the third spot with 21 wins, a victory ahead of Tim Thornton. Recent hot streaks have moved Julio Felix (16), Angel Stanley (12) and Seth Martinez (12) up the ladder as well.
Joel Berndt still holds his lead in the trainer standings with 19, but Frank Kirby has began to chip away as he is up to 14 wins, followed by Manny Perez (9), Moises Yanez (8) and Jimmy DiVito (8).
The Pick 6 carryover is beginning to grow as it is up to $6,125 and begins in the third race.
