Dubai World Cup simulcast at Hawthorne

Today there are quite a few three-year-old prep races worth watching around the country, including the Louisiana Derby and the Vinery from Turfway, but my focus will be on one of the greatest cards in the world that takes place in the morning and then one of the top Handicap horses in the country that is near and dear to our hearts.

On Saturday morning, the Dubai World Cup card will be taking place from Meydan Race Course. We will be offering wagers on all of the races from Dubai, with the featured pair, the Dubai Sheema Classic and the Dubai World Cup running at 11:50 am and 12:35 pm. We will be taking wagers on races 2-8 from Meydan Saturday. This card always provides huge fields and great value.

In the sixth race at Fair Grounds tomorrow, the Illinois-bred who still receives no respect is back as Giant Oak returns in the Grade II $400,000 New Orleans Handicap. After a win via DQ in the Grade I Clark at Churchill last fall and an extremely impressive victory in the Grade I Donn at Gulfstream, Giant Oak can show he is legit by overcoming a track that hasn’t been to his liking in a race without a ton of pace. I like Giant Oak a lot and think he is one of the best horses in the country right now.

Here at Hawthorne, we have a solid nine-race card with a first post of 1:30 pm. We have a fine $50,000 optional claimer which goes as the fourth race on the card as graded stakes winner Shadowbdancing makes his 2011 debut. A winner of nearly $750,000 on his career Shadowbdancing faces four rivals, including stakes winners Big Looie and My Sonny Boy. In the race prior, eight-time winner in 2010, Denham, also makes his return. He gets the hottest riding jock in the room right now in Julio Felix in the saddle and looks to kick off the year in fine fashion.
