Fan Friendly Friday and March Madness at Hawthorne

We continue to have fine weather as we hit mid-March and we are in full March Madness Mode. In addition to the live racing action, Hawthorne will have all of the March Madness games available to watch. You can sit at one of our bars and view the games, or get your own table in the Gold Cup Dining Room and flip through the games yourself.

In addition to a fine card and NCAA basketball, we have another of our Fan Friendly Fridays here at Hawthorne with $2 specials on admission, including program, food and beverages. Friday is the perfect day to join us for a fun, and hopefully profitable afternoon.

Looking back at the Wednesday card, Eddie Perez, despite only one win had the biggest day of them all. In the opening race on the card, he battled to a nose victory with Lighthouse Judge for win #2,000 on his career. The recent years have been some of the best for Eddie, so expect more winners to pile up quickly.

There were two riding doubles on the Wednesday card and one training double. The riding doubles came from leading jock Jozbin Santana and Tanner Riggs picked up a pair as well, both for trainer Joel Berndt. The most impressive performance on the card came from a Berndt runner in the featured sixth race as Mindy Queen broke on top and never looked back. Look for her to be back in stakes company soon as she continues her winning ways.

As we have each and every Friday, HorseplayerNow.com will be hosting an online chat covering the entire Hawthorne card. The chat begins at 1:15 pm as Brian Spencer and myself will be covering the day’s racing action. I have been on a Pick 4 roll of late and Brian is an expert on the Chicago circuit, so hopefully we can combine for a bunch of winners on the Friday card.

Survivor Selections of the Day

Total Survivor Entrants: 1,780
Eliminated Wednesday: 11
Total Remaining: 65

Today has the potential to cut the Survivor field in half as there are very few standouts on this card. While Inez tries to get her selection out of the way immediately, I’ll look to the third race on the card with #5 – Dazzle N Thrill. My concerns with this runner come in the fact that the horse will be needing to close ground late. What I do like it that she ran a very game race in her last and bled in that spot. With the addition of Lasix today, I expect her to finish better and she should have enough late kick for a top three finish.

Jim’s Survivor Selection: Race 3 - #5 – Dazzle N Thrill
Inez’ Survivor Selection: Race 1 - #1 – Sacred Ground
