Handicapping contest and front runners at Hawthorne
A windy day here at Hawthorne and that may determine a bit as to how the track will play for the eight-race card. The winds are out of the west, which means a headwind in the stretch. We have had a couple of days this meet where the headwind has been a factor, leading to horses have to be on or near the lead to win today. With a couple of similar days like this thus far on the meet, I think the riders will adjust as well though, and many more may be sending for the front.
Looking back at the Friday card, a pair of riders, leading jock Jozbin Santana and bug boy Constantino Roman each had three winners on the day. Only one trainer, Tammy Domenosky had a double, with Santana and Roman aboard a winner each for Tammy.
Today at Hawthorne we have another of our onsite handicapping contests. The contest has the best wagering format of any track as we open the contest to all wagers and players get to keep what they make. It’s a win-win for all involved. This year, we will be sending 6 players to the DRF, NTRA World Thoroughbred Handicapping Championships in Las Vegas through our contests. For details, you can check the website under the contest link, or you can get information and enter right here at Hawthorne at Guest Services on the first floor of the grandstand.

Kitty City was able to grind out a hard-fought victory for me for Survivor yesterday and while her not running in the top three was never in doubt during the race, I always like to have a winner as well. Today I am a bit worried about how the track may play as there is a decent headwind into the stretch, thus likely leading to a speed favoring strip. Regardless, the best horse in the best form is #4 – Judy’s Quest in today’s third race. She has a little versatility and may have to sit closer to the pace to win, but off her last race, she should be good enough to run in the top three today.
Jim’s Survivor Selection: Race 3 - #4 – Judy’s Quest
Inez’ Survivor Selection: Race 4 - #4 – Cityrap
