Fan Friendly Friday and carryovers at Hawthorne
We are back for live racing with a 9-race card and some solid fields. We got a little bit of overnight rain but that should only help the track. The rain is supposed to stay away for the majority of the day so we should have a fast racing surface all day long. Today we have our Fan Friendly Friday with $2 specials on admission and food and beer. We have a carryover in the Place Pick 9 of $5,760 and the Pick 6 carryover is up to $2,506.
Looking back at Wednesday, Florent Geroux had a fine day, winning three races on the card as he continues his fine riding here at Hawthorne. An underrated rider, Geroux has been a model of consistency this meet, hitting the board at a very high percentage. Looking at how the track played Wednesday, and the weather forecast today, expect a very even playing surface for the nine-race card which has a few spots with some potential nice payouts.
Today, as we do every Friday this meet, Joe Kristufek and myself will be chatting about all of the racing action from Hawthorne on HorseplayerNow.com. The chat opens at 1:15 pm and we will cover the racing action at Hawthorne, talk about the local and national racing scene, and take questions and selections from the racing fans.

Inez and I are in agreement today in the Survivor contest as each of us continue to move on. While neither of us can actually win the contest, it is fun to see how long we can Survive. Looking at this card, we need to find the most logical horse to hit the board and today it seems that Grattan Street is that horse in the third. This was the horse that gave bugboy Roman his three-day suspension and he looks to guide Grattan Street to victory for the third time at this level. Unfortunately, the last two tries, Roman and Grattan Street were Dq’d. Today, there is very little early pace, and a shorter field. Roman should have the horse close and Grattan Street should have clear sailing in the lane. I expect this to be the most popular Survivor selection of the day.
Jim’s Survivor Selection: Race 3 - #3 – Grattan Street
Inez’ Survivor Selection: Race 3 - #3 – Grattan Street
