Hawthorne adds two days per week

Weekday racing begins today with nice weather and a 1:30 pm post for the eight-race card. While there is no Place Pick 9 in play for the next couple of days, there are carryovers galore, and good ones at that as we have over $9,000 carryovers in both the early and late Pick 4 wagers. The pick 6 carryover is slowly growing but is over $1,000 and the High 5 is in excess of $3,500 for the finale. Added bonuses if you can hit the wagers.

Now that we enter the four-day racing weeks, you should see a little more consistency from day to day with how the track plays. Last weekend, the track played extremely evenly and I expect the same today. We have warming temps and winds out of the south with a fast main track. Expect an even playing surface once again.

Looking back at last Saturday, jockey Jozbin Santana had a three-bagger on the card and continues to ride very well this meet. Trainer Roger Brueggemann won a pair as well. Also, jockey Eddie Perez rode home a fine winner in Seguro in the day’s feature, bringing him only three wins away from 2,000 on his career. Expect Eddie to hit that mark this week.

Main Track – Fast

Race 3

SCRATCH #2 – Striver

Race 7

SCRATCH #4 – King Ajax
SCRATCH #5 – Jump’ien

Survivor Update and Play of the Day

Total Survivor Entrants: 1,780
Eliminated Saturday: 148
Total Remaining: 198

The Survivor contestants are dwindling quickly but Inez and I still Survive. We each had Churubusco on Saturday and he posted a game victory. I had a tough time with this card as I felt it was very competitive and there are some favorites that could be upset. I stayed away from some of the cheaper races today and went to the 7th for my pick. In this Illinois Allowance, I like the looks of #7 – Lalo’s Baby Bear from the barn of Chris Block. He ran a good race against open company in his first start out of the meet and is helped in here by the scratches of King Ajax and Jump’ien. He should be sitting in the second flight of runners and looks to bring Eddie Perez one win closer to 2,000.

Jim’s Survivor Selection: Race 7 - #7 – Lalo’s Baby Bear
Inez’ Survivor Selection: Race 2 - #2 – No Passage
