Hawthorne adds two days per week

Good morning to all, another day of racing action at Hawthorne as we round out the last of our weekend-only racing cards for the spring meet. A reminder, beginning next week we will be racing live on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday with a first race daily at 1:30 pm. Our racing season goes through April 30 and although there is still snow on the ground, thoughts of possible turf action in six weeks or so has crossed my mind. We have a good card Saturday with full fields, competitive racing, and a good allowance, and maiden allowance race as part of the nine-race card.

On Friday, the track clearly played the most evenly it has all meet long. Horses won from all parts of the track and all posts. I expect the track to play the same today. The best thing about the day is that 9 different riders and 9 different trainers won races on the card. If was a tough card to handicap but it was also one of those days where just a single winner can make for a winning day.

Survivor Update and Play of the Day

Total Survivor Entrants: 1,780
Eliminated Friday: 288
Total Remaining: 346

Today I’m not wasting any time on my Survivor selection. I thought this was a very tough card, but after the scratches in the opener, I feel most confident about #2 – Churubusco finding the board in the four-horse field. While he normally comes from off the pace, his last start of the winter had him much closer to the lead as he responded with a convincing win. Flaming Glory looks to provide the early pace, so a pace-stalking trip should get Churubusco home.

Jim’s Survivor Selection: Race 1 - #2 – Churubusco
Inez’ Survivor Selection: Race 1 - #2 – Churubusco
