UPDATE ON RIDER BRANDON MEIER
Rider Brandon Meier was transported to Loyola Medical Center following an accident in Friday’s second race at Hawthorne Race Course.
Meier was unconscious on the track but started coming around on the way to the hospital and was able to move his arms and legs when directed.
Jesse Lantz, thrown from his mount when trying to steer away from the accident, suffered a scraped and bloody nose but was able to resume his riding engagements.
Ubiquitous, a Tom Dorris trainee, was put down following the incident.

Brandon has regained consciousness. He’s mobile. CAT scans showed no bleeding on the brain. They are awaiting X-rays on his back, shoulder, and hip. He will be held in intensive care through the night.
Hawthorne Race Course is in its 102nd year of racing under Carey family ownership. Hawthorne races Friday and Saturday in February, beginning February 11. In March and April, live racing will take place every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday through the end of April. First post daily is 1:30 pm.
