FANS COME OUT IN DROVES TO BALMORAL PARK TO JOIN THE FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER

Paint The Park Pink
Balmoral Park "Painted the Park" pink in honor of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation on Saturday night and it was only fitting that driver Marcus Miller and his pink bike wound up in the winner's circle with longshot Western Bear.
It was a sea of pink at Balmoral Park in Crete tonight for “Paint the Park Pink” breast cancer awareness night. Men, women and children came dressed in pink to enjoy the live horse racing and join Balmoral Park in the fight against breast cancer.

“It was pink as far as the eye could see,” said General Manager Mike Belmonte. “This is always a great night. The fans really get behind this and not only have a great time, but really get excited about joining us to help fight breast cancer.”

“We love coming to Balmoral Park,” said Carla Cronin. “We’re here almost every Saturday anyhow, but we especially made it a point to be here tonight. A great night out AND fight breast cancer? That’s got us written all over it!”

At the invitation of the track, many fans in pink joined Marcus Miller in the Winners Circle after he won the 4th race to show their solidarity for a photo op. It was fitting that Marcus was the driver who won the race dedicated to “Paint The Park Pink” as he drives a pink “sulky” (the harness a driver rides on in harness horse racing.)

Many fans also bought pink horseshoes to hang in support / memory of loved ones and others did it just to be a part of the fight. The horseshoes are actual horseshoes and cost $2.50 each. They will be sold and will continue to hang in the Grandstand Entrance of Balmoral Park for the entire month of October.

All proceeds from the horseshoe sales will benefit the Chicagoland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen For The Cure®.

ABOUT BALMORAL PARK: Located in Crete, IL just 12 miles south of 80/94; Balmoral Park has been one of the nation’s premier horse racing facilities since 1926. Balmoral Park features live racing every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Admission and parking is always free.

ABOUT THE CHICAGOLAND AFFILIATE OF SUSAN G. KOMEN FOR THE CURE®: Established in 1997 the Komen Chicagoland Affiliate has awarded over $10 million towards the fight against breast cancer by funding grassroots breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment projects, as well as national research. Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds raised by the Affiliate are dedicated to fighting breast cancer locally in the Chicagoland metropolitan area.
