Jockey Angel Stanley injured in spill

During Hawthorne’s eighth race on Thursday, #4 Weatherstorm appeared to trip nearing the finish line and threw rider Angel Ortega Stanley to the ground. Stanley was taken to Loyola Medical Center as a precaution but he was awake and conscious, able to move all extremities, and appeared to be lucid. He did experience a cut below his left eye.

Weatherstorm suffered a bruised knee and apparently had a trickle of blood from his nostril

Hawthorne Race Course is in its 101st year of racing under Carey family ownership. Hawthorne offers the only traditional dirt track for thoroughbred racing in Northern Illinois. Live racing at Hawthorne runs Wednesday – Saturday through December 31. Post time daily is 1:35 PM with late post on Fridays of 2:35 PM through November 19.
