Holiday schedule changes at Hawthorne
It has been a little bit of time since the last set of stable notes were offered up, so my apologies. We are back with only 7 live racing days remaining for the fall meet but the spring Thoroughbred meet is right around the corner. First off all, a reminder that our schedule has changed for the next two weeks. After live racing tomorrow, we will be off for live racing from December 19-25. We will be open for simulcasting Sunday – Thursday and then will be dark on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We will be back with a pair of special live days on Sunday, December 26 and Monday the 27th before running the 29th – 31st to close out the fall. After that, training will continue here at Hawthorne as live racing is set to return on Friday, February 11.
Looking at the standings, it had appeared that Tim Thornton had the leading jockey standings wrapped up when Pablo Morales headed to Florida for the winter. Tanner Riggs has said not quite yet as he had a four-win day to climb within six of Thornton (46-40). Trainers Jamie Ness and Joel Berndt continue their neck and neck battle with Ness atop at 22 wins to Berndt’s 20 wins. Roger Brueggemann is only a few back at 18 while Frank Kirby has 17 victories. Both races will go to the wire.
For contest fans, you want to be here on Sunday December 26 as our Holiday Handicapping Contest will take place. Top prize for the contest is $10,000 and the live bet format that we offer is the best contest format in the country! In addition, an entry into the 2011 Horseplayer World Series is also on the line. For details on the contest, visit Guest Services or www.Hawthorneracecourse.com
As always, there will be another chat on www.HorseplayerNow.com. Join Joe Kristufek as he covers the Hawthorne card today and looks to continue to provide winners galore. The chat begins at 1:15 pm and you can join in with comments or just follow along.
