High-priced winners at Hawthorne

My apologies for no stable notes yesterday as I was in Lexington as an invited guest for the American Graded Stakes Committee meeting. The meeting was very informative and the members were very objective in the entire stakes grading process. I was honored to be invited, but it did take me away from the live race day.

Back today and apparently some weird happenings were taking place on Wednesday with some high-priced winners all over the place. I must say that I am shocked that either of the Pick 4 wagers got hit, nonetheless both of them. The Place Pick 9 is building as is the Pick 6 and we have a High 5 carryover today as well. Congrats to jockey Constantino Roman as he guided home his first career winner in Arrested By Duffy in the second race Wednesday.

In regards to the standings, Tim Thornton holds the lead with 36 winners over Pablo Morales (32) and Tanner Riggs (31). Trainer Jamie Ness has a three-win advantage over Joel Berndt at 20-17 while Roger Brueggemann is a winner back at 16 on the meet. Midwest Thoroughbreds continue their winning ways with 22 winners on the meet as they look to capture the leading owner for victories on the year title nationally. See I A remains the only three-time winning horse on the meet, but multiple horses look to join in that status as Hawk on the Hunt (4th), Denham (4th), Gut King (6th), Da Grizz (6th), and Dubious (8th) all try for their third win of the meet today.

As always, Joe Kristufek and myself will be covering the entire racing card from Hawthorne on www.HorseplayerNow.com. The chat will begin at 1:15 pm and run the entire day. If you can’t make it to the races live, join us online for insight and selections. Hopefully things will make a bit more sense than many of the races did yesterday.
