What a beautiful day for racing for our Illinois Festival of Racing! We have a ten-race card and currently there are no scratches from any of the stakes. The only scratch we await is the choice for Big Looie as he is cross-entered in the sprint and route race. The racing surface has played very evenly all meet long as all are in with a chance on a day where we often see upsets. This is the day that often determines many of the Illinois Champions in separate categories. There is one Illinois Bred that we won’t see today though as Giant Oak is pointing to the Breeders’ Cup Marathon next Friday. We wish Rudy and Virginia Tarra, and trainer Chris Block the best of luck as Giant Oak will be one of the Marathon favorites.
We are only one week away from the Breeders’ Cup as we have a lot of racing action to focus on next week. Next Friday, our first post will be at 1:45 pm with our nine races run between those from Churchill. Next Saturday, our first race will be at 12:35 pm with Churchill’s card beginning at 11:00 am. Featured Race of the Day
Our Featured race is the Lightning Jet Handicap with a field of 11 set to line up. With Shrewd Operator not in this spot, the pace should not be suicidal which could help the chances of #3 – Mighty Rule. Mighty Rule has some versatility and should be close to the pace. He likes this track and distance and has been working very well. For upset potential, give a bit of a look to #1 – High Expectations as he may be primed for a big performance today.
