Fast and firm for Gold Cup Day at Hawthorne

We’re back for another week of live racing and what a beautiful weather week it will be! Sunny skies, warming temps, $2 beers daily and full fields! Live wagering should be great as well as the track has played evenly throughout the first two days of the meet. Expect that once again for this week.

Tomorrow is our first installment of “Jim Vs.” as I will be taking on one of our fans, Bob Green in a live Handicapping Contest. Bob will be on-air along side me for our pre-race show as we will match-up to see who is the better handicapper for the day. Here’s the most important thing, this will be a lot of fun! For Bob, along with his TV duties, he will receive 1,000 Club Hawthorne Points. Should he defeat me tomorrow, Bob will get 10,000 Club Hawthorne Points! Our “Jim Vs.” contest is open to all fans. Fans can sign up at Guest Services on the first floor, they can become a friend of Hawthorne on Facebook and send us a message, or send me a message through twitter @HawthorneJim.

Saturday is the running of the Grade III $150,000 Hawthorne Derby on the turf. The race looks to be shaping up very well and much like the Gold Cup and Carey Memorial from last weekend, the Hawthorne Derby should be a great wagering race. We draw the field today and will touch on some of the entrants tomorrow in our stable notes.

Sunny skies, fast and firm for Wednesday, Good Luck!

Featured Race of the Day

Wednesday’s sixth race is a 5 1/2 furlong sprint on the turf for $18,000 with a full field of 12. Any of six to seven horses can win in this spot, but I will look near the inside with #2 – Ashtonofun. He was a near-miss in his last as he closed nicely while running a 16th shorter. He gets some pace to chase, but must break well to avoid possible traffic trouble in the lane. J. Pa and Hatfield are both solid candidates for this spot as well and watch out for Storm Boot Larry from the outside.

Make sure to play our Featured Race of the Day with your Club Hawthorne Card daily as you will qualify for the chance to win our Breeders’ Cup Super Bet. Every time you play our Featured Race with your Club Hawthorne card, you are automatically entered for your chance to win and one fan will win that opportunity to place a $5,000 wager on the Breeder’s Cup Classic. Our Super Bet promotion runs through October 30. For more details, go to our website,
