Fast track at Hawthorne
Another lovely day outside with sunny skies and temperatures in the 50s. We have a fast main track for the nine race card and the surface played very evenly on Friday. Today has a pair of solid allowance races on the card with a $30,000 optional claimer for the sixth and an Illinois allowance bunch for the seventh.
On Friday, three jocks had big days. Eddie Perez and Francisco Giles each had a double while Inez Karlsson had a triple on the card. On the training end, Roger Brueggemann had another double while Mark Cristel sent out a pair of winners as well, including an impressive closing victory by Officer Philly in the featured seventh event.
We are only a week away from the running of the Illinois Derby and we have a lot of activities taking place on Illinois Derby Day along with the Friday prior. Next Friday, we will have a pair of radio remotes at Hawthorne. The “Afternoon Saloon” of ESPN Radio 1000 will be hosting their show from our Turf Club as we will be offering a food and beverage special in the Turf Club. Tickets for the event are available by calling Group Sales at 708-780-7050. Also, WLUP, the Loop, will have their Loop Rock Girl competition once again with 32 beautiful ladies walking around our grandstand looking for your votes. The Loop will also have a live remote on the first floor of the grandstand.
Next Saturday, TVG will be on-site at Hawthorne to cover the entire racing card. Mike Joyce will join us on hand to cover the races and the Illinois Derby will be shown exclusively on TVG with a 4:37 pm post.

Best Bets
Race 5 - #5 – Shedrow Hero – This runner makes his third career start but first as a three-year-old as he has progressed in his morning drills. He should get a perfect stalking trip and gets the hot riding Karlsson in the saddle.
Race 9 - #1 – Apache Creek – Another runner making a return off a layoff as he has also been working very well. He gets the rail draw and the leading jock in the saddle. Also, Kirby has been sending out a ton of winners and the stalking style should fit this bunch.
