Guys Day Out at Hawthorne today
Well, Mother Nature is still treating well. After the rain cleared for a fast track and beautiful day on Wednesday, showers fell on us yesterday, but have cleared again for our nine-race card today. The track is fast and we get a solid card with a good Late Pick 4 sequence.
On Wednesday, both Eddie Perez and Tim Thornton crept a bit closer to leading rider Tanner Riggs as each had a riding double on the card. Thornton was aboard the top performer of the day as A. J’s Mountain had to battle every stride of the way in the third race and emerged on top with a game victory.
The fourth race is the feature on today’s card as recent maiden winner Big Sister looks to hold off four others in the six furlong sprint. Big Sister is the only runner not to have started in a stakes race, but off her recent score on February 19, she should be tough to catch while on the lead today.
For the guys, Mully and Hanley from WSCR the Score 670 AM will be here at Hawthorne today for their Guys Day Out event. The event will take place in the Turf Club and there are still a few tickets available. You can get info on the event by checking out our website, www.hawthorneracecourse.com for details.

Best Bets
Race 3 - #6 – Sax Notes – This 7-year-old gelding makes his first start for a new barn today and has every right to improve off his last. In that start, he ran well, finishing third, but he had only one work going into the race and has since posted a very quick 3/8th of a mile drill prior to this start. I expect him to be forwardly placed today and contend throughout.
Race 5 - #4 – Mamma Lina – Another race that lacks early pace, it wouldn’t surprise me if Mamma Lina heads for the front. She showed speed before tiring in her last but she should improve in her second race back. Also, she gets La Mandy in here and while La Mandy is best on paper, her 1 for 36 record makes her very tough to back today.
