Karlsson wins three, Brueggemann still hot

We are back for live racing on a beautiful day as we have a nine-race card under sunny skies with minimal scratches. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the track returned to its normal form as the speed bias that we saw last Saturday went away. The card played very evenly and we even had a few runners close from far back to get up for victories.

On Wednesday, Inez Karlsson came back in fine fashion as she guided home three winners from four mounts in her first full day back of the meet. Also, trainer Roger Brueggemann continued his hot start to the meet with a pair of victories as well. Today we kick off the weekend with a very tough card that should provide some value. I expect to see a good run of $10-$12 winners throughout the day.

Tomorrow is our Ladies Day at Hawthorne in our Turf Club. Ladies (and gentlemen) can enjoy food and drink, along with visiting many different vendors in the Turf Club throughout the course of the day. You can still purchase tickets online through our website at www.hawthorneracecourse.com for only $20 or buy them at the door tomorrow for $30. The proceeds go to charity and it looks to be a beautiful racing day.

Also, you can now follow me on Twitter as I will provide insight during the raceday for those that can’t make it out every day. I will provide track surface information, paddock insight and other information that pertains to racing at Hawthorne. To follow, go to www.twitter.com and look for “HawthorneJim”

Changes

Main Track – Fast

Race 4

SCRATCH #3 – Campari

Race 5

SCRATCH #5 – Lord of Thunder

Best Bets

Race 2 - #5 – Skippin Pete – I love this runner today. After a debut race where he had a very troubled start, he closed late in a spot with a solid winner. He is bred to run long and gets a rider switch to a strong finisher in Julio Felix. Expect a much improved effort out of this one today.

Race 9 - #10 – Blyde River Boy – A runner that hasn’t missed a beat, he ran, and ran very well through the winter in Tampa. That is a surface that will keep a horse very fit and this spot should play nicely to his style. Karlsson gets the call and she has been on him in recent starts. Hopefully we can get the 9-2 that we saw in the morning line.
