Arlington Park news release

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (March 3, 2010) – M. Scott McMannis has been named by Arlington Park to coordinate Arlington’s expanding handicapping contest and seminar program.

“We are pleased to have Scott coordinate our expanded slate of contests and seminars for the upcoming season,” said Wesley Ward, Marketing and Advertising Manager for Arlington. “Scott has a long history in racing that includes extensive experience in fan education as well as in handicapping contest development and execution. He has been assisting us in those areas and it is the perfect time to expand his role in coordinating our contests.”

McMannis first became associated with Arlington in 1982 when he developed and operated Arlington’s Handicappers’ Information Center, the first in the industry. In 1995, McMannis developed Chicago’s first ongoing handicapping contest.

In the fall of 2007 Arlington began sending McMannis to its OTB parlors to conduct handicapping seminars. In 2008 Arlington added handicapping contests to the “McMannis Tour” as it was dubbed.

“I’m enthused to be more involved in Arlington Park’s contests and seminars in 2010,” McMannis said. “Arlington Park has developed innovative ‘live-money’ handicapping contests that appeal to fans and have been copied by other tracks, a testimonial to the format. I’m looking forward to assisting the Arlington team in advancing this program to serve the fans.

“For 2010 we are finalizing plans for the most extensive series of handicapping contests and seminars that Arlington has ever offered,” revealed McMannis. “For example, as first prizes in our handicapping contests, we will be awarding 31 trips to Las Vegas to compete in major national handicapping tournaments, more than any other racetrack.”

McMannis will continue to conduct handicapping contests and seminars at Arlington’s OTB parlors during the off season as well as at Arlington Park during the live meet. The spring 2010 OTB Tour begins Saturday, March 6, at Trackside Hodgkins and will make eight OTB Tour stops on successive Saturdays before concluding with a “last chance” contest at Arlington Park itself on Friday, April 30.

In addition to coordinating Arlington’s contests and seminars this season, McMannis’s daily Arlington selections will continue appear in the Chicago Sun-Times and McMannis also serves as Midwest Correspondent for HorsePlayer Magazine as well as publisher of Racing Research Reports.

More information regarding the 2010 handicapping contests and seminars can be found on Arlington’s web site,, under Racing/Handicapping.

Arlington Park – the Chicago area’s premier Thoroughbred racetrack located in Arlington Heights, Ill. – will run a 91-day meet in 2010 from Thursday, April 29 through Sunday, Sept. 26. Arlington Park, whose parent company is Churchill Downs Incorporated (Nasdaq: CHDN), also operates 10 off-track, simulcast-wagering facilities: Trackside Arlington Park (Arlington Heights), Trackside Chicago, Trackside Quad City Downs (East Moline), Trackside Waukegan, Shooters Bar & Grill at Don Carter Lanes featuring Trackside Rockford, Fat Sam’s Bar & Grill featuring Trackside OTB in Lockport, Lucky’s featuring Trackside OTB in South Elgin, Nicolino’s featuring Trackside OTB in McHenry, Tad’s Sports Bar & Grill featuring Trackside OTB in South Beloit and Salerno-Pincente Ristorante featuring Trackside OTB in Hodgkins.
