Jockey Inez Karlsson to Ride for Charity on Final Day at Hawthorne
STICKNEY, IL – Jockey Inez Karlsson has chosen to follow a pattern she set in the past couple of meets and donate her earnings on her final day of riding to charity.
Karlsson, Hawthorne’s leading rider for the 2008 fall meet and runner-up for the Eclipse Award as Leading Apprentice rider in 2008 will be moving her tack to Tampa Bay Downs following Friday’s Hawthorne card with plans to ride the entire Florida meet.
For Friday’s card, Karlsson has six mounts and will be splitting her earnings between the PDJF (Permanently Disabled Jockey’s Fund) and the RICF (Racing Industry Charitable Foundation) which assists backstretch workers at the Northern Illinois tracks.
“This is something that I have been fortunate enough to do in past meets and have done well enough to make a substantial donation to my charities in the past. The PDJF is very close to all of us in Illinois with what has happened to Rene Douglas and Michael Straight and the RICF helps all of those who take care of the athletes that we get to ride every day. I am happy that I can help in any way possible.”
We wish Inez the best of luck Friday and at Tampa Bay Downs.
