| Hawthorne Racecourse (3/7/09) Contact: Mitch Demick (708) 222-4542 Mongoose Gold maintains good form in Merry Colleen Stakes
As expected Big Lou was sent immediately to the front, but Nicks and jockey Lyndie Wade were hard on the heals of the front runner through a swift opening quarter in 22.42. The two fillies approached the half as a team in 46.1, with Mongoose sitting chilly right behind the dueling leaders under a patient Tanner Riggs. Approaching the stretch, Mongoose Gold tipped out and gradually wore down the front runners while holding off Paddie Wak Wakie, who hung slightly while approaching the finish. Mongoose Gold is an Illinois-bred 5-year-old mare, claimed three races back by trainer Tammy Domenosky, for owners Alan and Beverly Kasdan. The win was Mongoose Gold’s eighth career triumph and her $31,500 payday pushed her lifetime earnings to $241,598. The winner paid $15.40 $7.40 and $2.60.
