WEATHER FORCES CANCELLATION AT BALMORAL
After a nasty rain and sleet storm pelted the Chicago area on Saturday, Dec. 12, Balmoral Park was forced to cancel its Sunday, Dec. 13 program due to unsafe track conditions.
After conferring with driver and trainer representatives on Sunday night, General Manager Jim Hannon agreed with the horsemen to cancel the regularly scheduled 12-race program due to unsafe track conditions. Both parties agreed that with the amount of precipitation and the dropping temperatures the one-mile surface was unsafe to race on thus prompting cancellation of the Sunday program.
Live racing will continue on Wednesday, Dec. 16 with first post for the 11-race card scheduled for 7:20 pm. Because of the cancellation on Sunday the 2009 edition of the Bal-Cal Pick 4 has come to an end. However, there is a live Pick 4 carryover of $6,331.88 for the live Wednesday program. Wednesday’s Pick 4 will consist of races two through five as usual.
