MISS VICKIE CONTINUES LATE SEASON SURGE

Miss Vickie
Miss Vickie and driver Brandon Simpson made it look easy in Sunday's $18,020 ISOBA Stake at Balmoral Park.
After a slow start to her sophomore season, Kevin Dixon and Robert Taylor’s Miss Vickie continued her quest for a second straight divisional title as she cruised to a very easy 2 ¼ length triumph in Sunday night’s $18,020 Illinois Standardbred Owners and Breeders Association Stake.

After a rather slow start from post position two, the even-money choice among the field of nine fillies followed the live cover of her chief rival, Fox Valley Lover (Dale Hiteman), as the field raced through opening splits 28.4 and 59.2.

Moving from sixth at the quarter, driver Brandon Simpson had his filly racing in third as the field moved into the final turn.

After losing their cover on the bend as Fox Valley Lover cleared to the front, Miss Vickie and Simpson continued their march towards the front and they were just a head behind Fox Valley Lover as the two hit the three-quarter-mile mark in 1:28.4.

The top two “ladies” in the division continued to slug it out through the lane before a game Miss Vickie began to draw clear with an eighth of a mile to go. Seemingly finding another gear, the Robert Taylor-trained miss then sped away from her rivals as she stopped the clock in 1:57.2. D Lee More (Mike Oosting) followed the winner's cover and rallied to finish second while Fox Valley Lover held on for third.

With the win Miss Vickie now boasts a record of 4-0-3 in 14 starts this year, with earnings of $141,844. For her career the striking daughter of Valley Victor-Willy Nilly sports 10 wins and six thirds in 24 starts with a bankroll of $262,259.
