| Balmoral Park (9/17/09) Contact: Tom Kelley Joinusforsomefun Looks for 11 in a Row in Propes Final
The lone three-year-old in the field of older distaffers was unraced at two because her connections felt she was a bit too small, and their patience is now paying big dividends as she enters tonight's race as the 7-2 morning line favorite after an impressive elimination win in 1:52.2. "We don't like to race them hard as two-year-olds, especially if they're on the smallish side like she was so we figured we'd just take our time with her," said trainer Brett Wilfong. After a win on the Indiana fair circuit and a last-to-first victory at Hoosier Park, Wilfong shipped the daughter of Cape Crusader-Joe's Feather to Balmoral Park where she posted another impressive victory. It was back to Indiana then where the filly proceeded to rattle off seven straight victories before returning to Balmoral for last week's eliminations. Sam Widger will be at the controls behind Joinusforsomefun, who has drawn post position four. Brendan and Trenton Watson's IYQ is a 10-time winner this season and she figures to merit plenty of attention as the 9-2 second choice in tonight's final as well. The daughter of Big Tom gave way late in her elimination but this year's State Fair Stakes champion has really blossomed in her four-year-year old season posting 10 wins, two seconds and five thirds with earnings of $92,498. Others who figure to get plenty of attention in this wide-open battle include last year's Grandma Ann Stake winner Townes Party Girl, a recent winner here in 1:51.1; Kennans Kelli, who captured the $50,000 Parklane Powerful Stake here at Balmoral back on August 1; and the threesome of Kelly's Keepsake, Bobs Minute Maid and Ms. Maggie who have combined earnings of almost $1.4 million between them. |
