ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (June 13, 2009) – In a race taken off the turf and run on Polytrack, Mack Robinson’s Cherokee Queen was able to set a slow early pace and had plenty left in the lane to take down winning honors in Saturday’s $53,000 Possibly Perfect Stakes for fillies and mares at Arlington Park.

Cherokee Queen, cleverly rated throughout by jockey Jesse Campbell, drew off by 5 1/2-lengths at the wire and accomplished the nine-furlong distance in 1:53.71 after setting early splits of 26.57 and 52.81. Trained by Graham Motion, the winner returned mutuels of $13.40, $8 and $4.20 and increased her career earnings to $120,195 with her third win from nine lifetime starts.

“Circumstances worked in our favor,” said jockey Campbell in post race comments. “There was no speed in the race, she got the lead on her own and never looked back. I had a lot of horse under me all the way.”

Susan Fallon and Genevieve Rafael’s Guanahani finished second, paying $14.80 and $4.20 while a nose in front of Craig Bernick’s You Go West Girl, who paid $2.40.

Racing resumes Sunday at Arlington with a 10-race program beginning at 1 pm.
