ONE MORE WIN FOR VOY POR UNO MAS IN $100,000 RICHARD RADKE ILLINOIS OWNERS STAKES
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (May 2, 2008) – Del Sol Farm LLC & Hernandez Racing Club’s Voy Por Uno Mas was able to set an easy pace in the mile and a sixteenth Richard Radke Illinois Owners Stakes and had plenty left in the tank to hold off Tony Terrific to win the $100,000 race by two lengths in 1:42.80.
The 5-year-old son of Mazel Trick set fractions of 25.15 seconds for the opening quarter, 48.80 seconds for the half, 1:11.98 for three-quarters and a mile split of 1:36.40 en route to the final clocking.
“He was very relaxed today in the first quarter mile and he did everything right,” said winning jockey Junior Alvarado.
Tony Terrific rallied from last at the top of the stretch to get up for second, a half-length clear of Fort Prado. Free Fighter, Shim’s Pride, Rey Del Sol and Mr. Mischief completed the order of finish.
“I got a perfect trip, he settled coming out of the gate,” said Inez Karlsson, who rode the runner-up. “Down the backside I was following the other Chris Block horse (Free Fighter). I came around the turn and he started running, I never got stopped, but the horse who won kind of got loose and running.”
Voy Por Uno Mas was making his first start since last November and was none the worse for the layoff in picking up his sixth victory in 24 starts. He earned $58,800 to boost his bankroll to $208,616.
Sent off at nearly 15-1 and the second longest odds in the race, Voy Por Uno Mas returned $31.80, $15.60 and $6.80. Tony Terrific paid $7.40 and $4.40. Fort Prado paid $3.40.
Later in the afternoon, William Stiritz’s Afleet Deceit survived a speed battle with Grade I stakes winner Hooh Why to win the $57,200 Double Delta Stakes by 1 ¾ lengths over late closing Peach Brew with Hooh Why salvaging third.
Ridden by Chris Emigh, the daughter of Northern Afleet paid $6.60, $3.80 and $2.40.
