CATALANO TRAINEES FAVORED IN 2-YEAR-OLD STAKES RACES

Meet’s Leading Trainer Seeks Sweep of Freshman Races

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Sept. 2, 2009) – Arlington Park’s perennial leading trainer Wayne Catalano, in his traditional spot atop the meet’s standings, sends out the morning line favorites in both of Saturday’s 2-year-old stakes races. The veteran conditioner will saddle Darrell & Evelyn Yates Ltd.’s Dixie Band, the 9-5 choice in the Grade III $150,000 Arlington-Washington Futurity, and Nancy Mazzoni’s She Be Wild, the 2-1 early favorite in the Grade III $150,000 Arlington-Washington Lassie. Both races are to be run at one mile over Polytrack.

Last month, on Arlington Million Day Aug. 9, Catalano sent out his two youngsters to capture the local preps for Saturday’s co-features. Dixie Band, a son of Dixie Union, won the $53,200 Spectacular Bid Stakes by 1 ½ lengths while She Be Wild, a daughter of Offlee Wild, took top honors in the $55,400 Top Flight Stakes by 5 ½ lengths.

Catalano has tabbed David Flores to pilot Dixie Band in the Futurity, which goes as the sixth race on the 10-race program. Junior Alvarado, the meet’s leading rider, takes his regular position in the saddle for She Be Wild in the Lassie, carded as the day’s ninth race.

Among those slated to face Dixie Band in the Futurity are Oak Crest Farm LLC & John Adger’s U Appeal To Me (James Graham), runner-up the Spectacular Bid last time out and Linda M. Harding’s Kratisto (Irwin Rosendo), runner-up in the $100,000 Charles Town Juvenile at that West Virginia track.

Others in the Futurity are recent maiden winners Mellon Patch Inc.’s Beware the Tiger (Jesse Campbell); Bass Seeligson Partnership & High Fitzsimmons’ Oak Motte (Eusebio Razo Jr.); Jack Brooks’ Herecomesbert (Larry Sterling Jr.); and William Schettine’s Piscitelli (Junior Alvarado).

In the Lassie, CresRan LLC’s Tiz Miz Sue (James Graham) and Richard Davis’s Highest Power (Eddie Martin Jr.) are both coming in off large-margin victories and could pose a threat to She Be Wild.

The remainder of the field for the Lassie includes: Stan Whisenant’s Gabba Girl (Chris Emigh), fourth in the Top Flight last out; recent maiden winner Carolyn McDonald & Tim Hamlin’s Attempt to Name (Inez Karlsson); Wayne Sanders & Larry Hirsch’s Deceptive Glory (Jesse Campbell), eighth in the Top Flight; William Schettine’s Suzanne, a maiden victress at Monmouth last month; Charles Heider & Michael Dahir’s Screen Legend (Jesus Castanon), winner last out at the one-mile Futurity distance; and Hoss-Bone Racing’s That’s Whatshesaid, a victress over state-bred rivals in July.

The two races are part of a Saturday stakes tripleheader that also includes the Grade III $200,000 Washington Park Handicap for older horses.
