Hawthorne Concludes Meet this Weekend with Titles on the Line
Stickney, IL – Following Wednesday’s racing, four racing days remained in the Hawthorne Fall meet, which will conclude this weekend, with ten-race cards and free admission Friday through Sunday.
While the horses are always the emphasis, the human battle offers considerable excitement in the last week of the season. Chris Emigh leads the jockey race by two wins over Tim Thornton going into Thursday’s program, while Frank Kirby holds just a single-race edge over Mike Reavis in the pursuit for leading trainer.
If Thornton were to win the jockey race, it would be his first riding title, while Emigh is in pursuit of title number eight. That would break the record of seven which he currently shares with the recently retired Mark Guidry.
As for the trainers, both Reavis and Kirby have been leading trainer multiple times, but they both are firing hard in the waning days to emerge victorious.
At the conclusion of the tenth race on Sunday, Hawthorne will be dark until March 7, when Hawthorne will commence its Spring meet that will run through April 28.
Hawthorne will remain open for simulcasting during the live-racing hiatus.
Hawthorne Race Course’s Thoroughbred meet begins on Friday, September 21 and will continue through January 13, 2008. Live racing will be conducted Wednesday through Sunday, regular first post 1:35 pm central time. Hawthorne Race Course is located at 3501 Laramie Avenue, Cicero, IL 60804, gates open daily at 7 am.
