| Balmoral Park (12/23/08) Contact: Tom Kelley WOLF CREEK CUPID TAKES INCREDIBLE FINALE SERIES WRAP-UP
When the smoke cleared from this heated battle it was Rose & George Bonomo’s Wolf Creek Cupid who emerged with a nose decision in 1:58.4 on a track rated as good. Sent right to the top by driver Marcus Miller, the daughter of Art’s Conquest-Run N Gun was able to get away with an easy opening split of 30.0. The slow early pace prompted a move from entry mate Stohli Dohli (Trace Tetrick) who was sitting in third and that filly moved up quickly to grab command as the field raced past the half-mile mark in 57.4. Moving around the final turn Stohli Dohli continued to show the way. A first over Kissmeallover (Mike Oosting), who was looking for a clean sweep of the series, had pulled right alongside in second while Wolf Creek Cupid remained in the pocket as the field hit the three-quarter-mile station in 1:27.0. Through the lane these three fillies continued their battle with Stohli Dohli continuing to fend off a stubborn Kissmeallover. Miller, who was spying all the action from third just over a length behind the top two, then maneuvered his filly down into the passing lane where she rallied gamely to get a nose in front in the final strides. Stable mate Stohli Dohli held on for second while Kissmeallover was a tough luck third. The top two finishers were both trained by conditioner Jim Meade. Balmoral Park will be dark on Wednesday, Dec. 24. Live racing will resume at the Crete plant on Saturday, Dec. 27. Post time will be 7:20 pm.
