Venusinbluejeans and driver Brent Holland had no trouble disposing of nine rivals in Sunday's $12,500 Direct Dottie Stake.
Illinois conceived and foaled pacing fillies grabbed the headlines on Sunday night as a field 10 sophomores met in the $12,500 Direct Dottie Stake.

As expected John Carver’s Venusinbluejeans proved to be too much for this group to handle as she uncorked a wicked 26.2 final quarter en route to a 5 ¼ length victory in a career best of 1:52.1.

Given a confident steer by driver Brent Holland, this daughter of Ft. Apache Hanover-Swift Sister ranged up first over from mid-pack, then left her rivals in her dust as she rolled to her second win in eight starts this season. She’s Not (Del Chupp) followed the cover of the winner but was no match for her in the lane and was forced to settle for the bridesmaid role, while Miracle To Me (Todd Warren) rallied from far back to be third.

The Ervin Miller-trained miss now boasts four wins, two seconds and five thirds in 18 career starts with earnings of $105,825. Sent off as the 8-5 favorite, Venusinbluejeans returned $5.20, $4.20 & $2.80.

In other action on Sunday night the $14,000 Filly & Mare Open pace went to Sheryl Erickson’s Bow Wow Wine and driver Brandon Simpson in 1:52.0. The $14,000 Open Trot was taken by the Panhellenic Stables classy veteran Dink Adoo (Mike Oosting) in 1:55.0.
