North & South Side Racetracks Bet on Crosstown Classic

With both the Cubs and Sox currently leading their divisions, the upcoming Crosstown Classic series between the “North Siders” and the “South Siders” is causing quite a stir among fans of both first place clubs. A “friendly” wager or two, just to show the confidence they have in their squad, have been placed between fans of both teams on the outcome of this great rivalry.

With bragging rights at a premium this season, Chicago-based businesses are also getting in on the action. Recently, north suburban based Arlington Park and south suburban based Balmoral Park jumped into the act that keeps them in business, placing a wager.

While both tracks handle millions of dollars in wagers on horse racing, this specific bet has nothing to do with a trifecta or superfecta but it is still very much about a win wager. Each racetrack is putting up a fully stocked luxury suite and a day or a night at the races as the prize for the winner of the June 20th – June 22nd interleague series. As geography and fan base holds, Arlington will be represented by the Cubs and Balmoral by the White Sox. The losing track will have to host a party for the winning track's management staff in the luxury suite while also dedicating and naming a race for the winning ballclub. The winning club's team flag will be also be flown in the infield of the losing track on the day or night that the party is hosted.

Heading into this year’s Crosstown Classic, the all-time series is tied at 30-30 and there have only been four sweeps in the history of the series, three by the Cubs and one by the White Sox.
