ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Auguest 16, 2008) – Red Rabbit Racing’s General Charley, claimed three starts back for $35,000, rallied to overtake front running Yankee Injunuity in the final furlong to win the $53,400 The Tin Man Stakes at Arlington Park on Saturday. Eddie Perez was aboard the Chris Block-trained son of Holy Miss who covered the mile and a sixteenth over firm turf in 1:43.65.

Block admitted that he wasn’t looking to run the 5-year-old gelding in the race named for the 2006 Arlington Million winner but was pointing for an easier spot in a few days.

“I’ve got to give it to these guys over here (the owners),” he said. “I was leaning toward going back to the Polytrack but they wanted to try this. This horse is confident at all times, so we went in and took a shot. It worked out and we’re very fortunate.”

The victory was the second in seven starts this year for General Charley and his eighth in 30 trips to post overall. He earned $32,040 to push his bankroll to $364,963.

Yankee Injunity set the pace through fractions of 25.23 seconds, 49.55 seconds, 1:13.46 and 1:37.60, and held on for second after being passed by the winner.

It was another half-length back to 3-2 favorite Demarcation, who ran third in the six-horse field followed by Cape San Blas, Pickapocket, and Tiganello.

General Charley paid $9.60, $5.80 and 2.80. Yankee Injuniuty returned $7.20 and $3.40. Demarcation paid $2.20.
