HANDICAPPER McMANNIS TO CONDUCT SEMINARS AT ARLINGTON PARK AND SEVERAL TRACKSIDE OTB FACILITIES THROUGHOUT 2008
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Feb. 21, 2008) – Chicago Sun-Times handicapper M. Scott McMannis will conduct a series of 10 handicapping seminars during 2008 at Arlington Park and several Trackside OTB facilities beginning Saturday, April 5, at Trackside Hodgkins, located inside Salerno-Pincente Ristorante at 9301 W. 63rd Street in Hodgkins from 12:30 p.m. until the conclusion of the Hawthorne Race Course that day card at approximately 5 p.m.
McMannis, who also serves as Midwest Correspondent for Horseplayer Magazine, will hold a one-hour preview of the day’s Hawthorne card (featuring the Grade II $500,000 Illinois Derby) from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., and will be available the rest of the afternoon to discuss wagering strategies as well as handicapping principles in general.
“I enjoyed meeting racing fans when I hosted two similar seminars last December,” said McMannis. “I have loved teaching about horseracing and handicapping in a variety of venues for more than 25 years and I am especially excited about expanding the scope of these seminars for 2008.”
The seminar at Trackside Hodgkins will be the first of three such programs to be held during April. Each will coincide with major race days on both the local and national circuit.
On Saturday, April 19, McMannis will be at Trackside Arlington Park located on the corner of Euclid & Wilke in Arlington Heights, while one week later on April 26, he will conduct a seminar at Trackside Waukegan, 630 S. Green Bay Road. Each day McMannis will be on hand from 12:30 through the end of the afternoon’s Illinois Thoroughbred card.
During Arlington Park’s live meet, which runs from May 2 through Sept. 21, McMannis will hold three seminars, the first of which is scheduled for Saturday, June 28 when the day’s featured attraction will be the Grade III $150,000 Chicago Handicap. McMannis’ other summer seminars will be Saturday, Aug. 2 (Grade III $100,000 Arlington Oaks) and Saturday, Sept. 6 (Grade III $200,000 Pucker Up Stakes and Grade III $150,000 Arlington-Washington Breeders’ Cup Lassie).
After Arlington’s meet ends, McMannis will take his seminars back on the road with seminars and appearances scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 27 at Trackside Hodgkins; Saturday, Oct. 11 at Trackside Chicago, 901 W. Weed St.; Saturday, Nov. 1 at Trackside Rockford, 5011 E. State St.; and Saturday, Dec. 13 at a Trackside facility yet to be determined.
Arlington Park – the Chicago area’s premier Thoroughbred racetrack located in Arlington Heights, Ill. – will run a 96-day meet in 2008 from Friday, May 2 through Sunday, Sept. 21. Arlington Park, whose parent company is Churchill Downs Incorporated (Nasdaq: CHDN), also operates 11 off-track, simulcast-wagering facilities: Trackside Arlington Park (Arlington Heights), Trackside Chicago, Trackside Quad City Downs (East Moline), Trackside Rockford, Trackside Waukegan, Fat Sam’s Bar & Grill featuring Trackside OTB in Lockport, Lucky’s featuring Trackside OTB in South Elgin, Nicolino’s featuring Trackside OTB in McHenry, The Inferno featuring Trackside OTB in South Beloit, Rookies featuring Trackside OTB in Homewood and Salerno-Pincente Ristorante featuring Trackside OTB in Hodgkins.
