Hawthorne Late Pick Four Finds National Spotlight
Stickney, IL – Thanks to a two-day carryover, the late pick four at Hawthorne Race Course provided horse players with a jackpot to shoot for in the amount of $34,392…and the guns they were a blazing.
When all was said and done, horseplayers added $182,464 to the pot, leaving $216,846 up for grabs, far surpassing any previous pick four pools in the history of the Stickney oval.
The sequence began in race six with 5-1 shot Miss Classified, as the five-year-old mare wired a well-matched field of seven and paid $12.80 to win.
Race seven featured two-year-old colts and geldings and saw Palmerstown rate just off some battling pacesetters and out game a stubborn Oatman to take leg two, returning $7.20 as the 5-2 second choice.
The third leg was run over the turf course and featured another front-running winner as Tour d’Aura led from start to finish while holding off a cavalry of closers and paying $10.00 for those who played the four-year-old filly to win.
The final leg of the pick four was a head-scratcher going in, and it appeared to be a race in which horse players needed to spread a bit. When the six furlong dash was concluded it was Zoran who emerged victorious at a $9.00 win price and completing the pick four.
As is the case when free money is up for grabs, the pick four returned a whopping $1,778.60 for a one-dollar ticket. When you consider the longest price in the combination was only 5-1, it was a very generous return for those who correctly plotted the outcome.
